Soldbuch to H. Schmidt, Pz. Art Reg. 74, WIA Normandy 1944, EK2Soldbuch to Heinrich Schmidt, Pz. Art Reg. 74, Schmidt NCO in 1940 and member of the Beobachtungs-Ersatz-Abteilung 6 saw his first action in Russia. He was promoted up to Wachtmeister and received the East front medal and War merit cross 2nd class with swords. Later he was transferred to the Pz. Art Reg. 74, part of the 2. Panzer Division. The regiment was completely destroyed in Normandy August 1944 and it was at that point that Schmidt saw action against the allied invasion front and was wounded by a grenade shrapnel on 23.8.44. He was brought to Kriegs Lazarett 1/614 in Brussels, Belgium and was then transferred to a Lazarett in Salzbrunn where he received the wound badge in black for the wound. He stayed there till 21.12.44 and was sent home untill 5.1.45. That year and was then moved to Artillerie-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Abteilung (motorisiert) 13. Only being with his unit for a very short time, Schmidt was again sent home from 19.1.45 to 1.2.45 because his house (Bad Salzbrunn near Frankfurt)  was bombed. One day after his return to the unit he received the Iron cross 2nd class (unsure if this was for the battle in France or back in Germany).

The soldbuch is complete but the front cover is missing. The photo of Schmidt was officialy added and stamped to the obverse, small note was added here "Geändert 14.1.44". Nicely filled out.
